How to Stop Spam in Outlook Express
A great amount of spam can be eliminated by using filters in Outlook Express. Filters are called Message Rules in Outlook Express and are also used in most other email clients. Message rules will filter incoming email before putting them in the inbox. They can perform any number of specific tasks from blocking unwanted emails to organizing emails into various folders. Afew basic filters will save you a great deal of time and trouble with just a few basic filters.

Step One:
Step 1

Go to Tools -> Message Rules -> Mail

Step 2:
spam 2

At this point you will need to determine the unique characteristics of the offending spam to create your new mail rule. As many boxes as needed can be selected. Once selected you will notice that the "Rule Description" block becomes populated with links that should be clicked to enter the characteristics that you want to take action on. As an example, in the "1.Select the Conditions for your rule" area, if you clicked the "Where the From Line Contains People" box, you could make a specific rule to prevent certain email address or names from coming in. In the second box you would tell it what to do with that mail - anything from moving it to a folder or deleting it right away. You can see that we selected "Delete it". We then click on the link in the "3. Rule Description" area to enter additional information.

Step 3
spam 3

In the "Add" field we enter the email address of the spammer, click on the "Add" button and click "OK".

Step 4
spam 4

Blocks 1 through 3 are now completed. Notice the result of the last step in block 3. Now in block 4 give the rule a descriptive name and click "OK".
spam 5

You have now completed a mail rule and can create, modify, copy or remove rules. Make sure and click on the "Apply Now.." button to apply the rules.
